Memories of Thomas E. Lenihan
a resident of St. Petersburg, and Skaneateles, NY, Tom died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Tom graduated from Smithtown Central High School in 1972 and proudly attended the State University of New York at Oswego where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Computer Science. While at Oswego, Tom met the love of his life, Lynn Van Order from Skaneateles, NY, and the two were married in 1976. Tom and Lynn then moved to Williamsburg, VA, where Tom completed the MBA program at the Mason School of Business at the College of William and Mary. Tom started working at MetLife directly out of graduate school and worked his way up through the company over the next 30 years before retiring in 2009. His career took him from New York City to Chicago and back east to Morristown, NJ. In Morristown, Tom joined the Spring Brook Country Club and was able to focus more on his passion for golf. When not in the office or out on the golf course, Tom could be found enjoying his kids\' musical performances and sporting events, rooting for the New Jersey Devils, Jets, and Syracuse University. Later in the 1990s, the Lenihans began spending more time in the Finger Lakes of upstate New York, where Tom added another hobby to his active life, boating with his family. When Tom retired, he and Lynn moved to St. Petersburg. Tom was finally free to spend all the time he wanted golfing and boating with his friends and family. He also stayed involved with both the investment community and his alma mater by chairing the Investment Committee of the Oswego State Foundation. As much as Tom enjoyed and excelled in his career, he was even better at enjoying retired life, frequently taking Lynn for a twirl around the dance floor and visiting his friends & family all over the country. Tom is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lynn; his son, Brian of Fort Lauderdale; daughter, Colleen of Washington, DC; parents, John and Margaret; as well as his brother, John; his sisters, Terry & Kathleen, and their families. Predeceasing Tom were his brothers, Jim and Kevin. Tom was a truly beloved husband, father, and friend; he\'ll be remembered for his sense of humor, bright smile, and having a twinkle in his eye
